Stylist sisters Marjan and Maryam Malakpour launched the accessories label NewbarK in 2009 - a luxury collection of handmade shoes and bags with a minimalist aesthetic, each piece is hand-crafted in LA, fusing a chic and urban sophistication.
The label regularly collaborates with a creative collective of artists and visionaries to produce mesmerising film projects, which not only showcase their designs, but stir the senses, inviting the viewer on a journey into their world.
Their latest offering for AW14, ‘Knowing through nothing’, is directed by Floria Sigismondi (David Bowie 'The Stars Are Out Tonight', Justin Timberlake ‘Mirrors’, Pink ‘Try’, Christina Aguilera ‘Fighter’), and features US musician / model Jamie Bochert wearing a pair of the designers' simple red flats, in a dark tale which explores movement and surreal dream-logic - themes associated with the early surrealists, such as superstition, coincidence, and mysticism.
Set to a haunting musical score by Bochert, it's so gothy and creepy that I half expected Jessica Lange as the Supreme to pop up in the background, wobbling around with a Bourbon in one hand and cigarette in the other, whilst Myrtle Snow burned at the stake somewhere in the garden (wearing Balenciagaaaa! of course).
