Robert Mapplethorpe: The Perfect Moment 25th Anniversary
Legendary US photographer Robert Mapplethorpe pushed the boundaries of photography with his stark and cold black and white compositions which included celebrity portraits of Debbie Harry, Grace Jones and his soulmate Patti Smith; stills of flowers such as calla lillies and orchids, and most notably, a controversial series of male nudes with a strong homoerotic and sadomasochistic theme.
Now a posthumous retrospective exhibition will mark the 25th Anniversary of “Robert Mapplethorpe: "The Perfect Moment,” exploring many of his iconic works which fused a sensual energy within his subjects. The exhibit brings together 54 images in a display entitled "Saints and Sinners", pairing not-so obvious pictures together, juxtaposed deliberately to allow for new interpretations of his work.
The exhibition has just opened at the Sean Kelly Gallery in New York and will run until 25 Jan 2014.
