Art x Fashion - Nicomede Talavera SS14

Back in June I wrote a piece for Dazed Digital about designer Nicomede Talavera's collaboration with director / photographer Can Evgin on the short film "Boys of Edfu" - the film was made for Dazed and Confused magazine in association with The BFC, who commissioned a series of new films on London’s emerging designers.

Now Talavera has unveiled his first full collection, which moves on from his AW13 exploration of how young Muslim boys mix cultural dress with sportswear, as he takes inspiration from artist Ellsworth Kelly’s work for SS14, and in particular his use of asymmetric collages which fuse an abstract irregularity with constraint.
A combination of classic tailoring, abstract graphic elements and minimalist colour blocking, the collection includes sheer nylon oversized t-shirts, long sleeved tailored tops, graphic panelled shorts, sleeveless tops with appliquéd leather graphic elements worn over skin-tight polo necks and vest tops, a tailored zip-up jacket in textured cracked leather and oversized or tailored trousers with cargo pockets which add a utilitarian slant to clean shapes. Black and white provide a base colour with pops of red, pink, green and purple.

The collection will be available worldwide through select retailers, and also marks the designer's third collaboration with luggage giant, Eastpak - Talavera previously launched two exclusive ranges with the brand in 2011 and for SS13.
The bags will be sold internationally from February 2014.
