Iris van Herpen x SHOWcabinet

"Iris van Herpen's SHOWcabinet presents a world where time dissolves and disciplines intertwine. Van Herpen's collaborative approach to her couture has resulted in collections that defy categorisation. In her work, fashion, science, art and technology are not separate subjects, but flow from a single source." - SHOWstudio

Dutch couturier Iris van Herpen is a pioneer in fusing the traditional craft of couture with a curiosity for revolutionary technologies and the world beyond fashion, boundary pushing the relationship between science and art.
As part of SHOWstudio's 'SHOWcabinet', the designer is now the catalyst for a thematic installation of work inspired by the collision of science and art, along with van Herpen's passion for the body in motion. The display will include a one-off piece created by throwing black water at muse and style icon Daphne Guinness, shot by Nick Knight using high-speed cameras, which is an homage to the design van Herpen created in 2010 for her 'Crystallisation' show at Amsterdam Fashion Week - the design explored the secrets and invisibility of water.

Alongside van Herpen's work will be pieces by artists who have also explored the clash of science, style and art forms, including Geoffrey Lillemon, Salvador Breed, Kris Kuksi, Tobias Klein, Michael Hansmeyer, Kate MccGwire, Philip Treacy, Jordan Askill, Isaie Bloch, Heaven Tanudiredja and Irene Bussemaker.

The Iris van Herpen SHOWcabinet is on display now at 19 Motcomb Street, London SW1X 8LB until 19th July 2013. For more info, head HERE.
