Late to the party I know, but hey, yesterday I had things to do - so you'll already know that the British Fashion Council have announced the winners of their designer support initiative, NEWGEN MEN, for SS14.
Sponsored by Topman, the designers chosen to represent Britain’s rising stars in menswear fashion are Agi & Sam, Astrid Andersen, Lee Roach, Matthew Miller, Shaun Samson (for catwalk sponsorship) and Martine Rose (for presentation sponsorship).
NEWGEN MEN began back in 2009 building on the past success of MAN, a similar initiative which was created by Topman and Fashion East, cultivating some of the biggest names in fashion including J.W Anderson, James Long and Sibling.
Along with sponsorship, NEWGEN MEN will include mentoring and tailored business support for the designers, helping to raise their profile in the industry - and with Menswear now growing in stature since the creation of London Collections: Men, this is a really exciting time for up-and-comers who will soon be dominating the fashion scene.
And talking of up-and-comers, I'm looking forward to seeing Ada + Nik's debut capsule collection next month, along with Alex Mattsson's collaboration with controversial LA-based rapper-come-stripper Brooke Candy as part of this season's Red Bull Catwalk Studio initiative - the music-based initiative has previously included Zebra Katz, Fred Butler and Nasir Mazhar.
Candy will perform a track co-produced by her and Mattsson during his menswear presentation, clad in a specially designed piece by the designer. The track will also be accompanied by a music video directed by Chris Murdoch and styled by Matthew Josephs.
London Collections: Men takes place 16th-18th June - watch the first of three teaser videos from the BFC which build up to a three minute feature film to be released in full on the eve of the first show. For more info on LC:M, head HERE.
