I recently tweeted about the trailer for Sofia Coppola's latest movie, "The Bling Ring", which tells the tale of a real-life clique of fame-obsessed teen burglars who broke into celebrities' homes in Los Angeles and helped themselves to what was probably gifted to the celebs for free anyway. You'll recall Paris Hilton and the mess that is Lindsay Blohan (and yes I meant to spell it that way), were among the celebs targeted - fast forward to 2013 and Blohan would probably be doing the robbing herself these days, to pay for all those rehab bills.
Normally anything to do with vacuous hipster Los Angeles teens with their ear assaulting El Laaaaaaay accents would make me run for the hills, and not Hollywood's for sure.
But for some reason, I am strangely drawn to this film, which is without doubt a less atmospheric offering than Coppola's "The Virgin Suicides" (one of my all time fav flicks).
Based on the 2010 Vanity Fair article "The Suspect Wore Louboutins", the film's producers have said it will "reveal a sobering view of our modern culture", which translated means, they hope you enjoy the vapid, trashy, celebrity-obsessed and soulless side of life in LA. It's no wonder they're all in therapy.
The film hits UK cinemas on July 5. Watch the trailer below, but warning, your eyes can't unsee this.
