AllSaints AW13 Womenswear: Less Distressed, More Attitude

When I hear the name AllSaints, I think of two things.

1) The label with an urban rock-inspired aesthetic made up of worn-in signature skull-print tees and tanks, crumpled leather jackets and grungy draped dresses, across a colour palette of mainly black, beige and grey marl, all paired with scuffed Victorian-style boots.

2) My ex, who wasn't the most-clued up when it came to fashion (I know, don't judge me) and thought AllSaints was the only clothes shop in London, hence why when we broke up I was happy to never see a pair of skinny distressed jeans again. And my ex.

So let's talk about AllSaints AW13, as the lookbook has now been released, shot at their Earlham Street store which has become an experimental hub for their creative endeavours - one of which is their current 50-piece installation entitled ‘The Biker Project’ (series 1) which celebrates the craftmanship behind an AllSaints biker jacket (my fav being the 'Walker'). Watch a short film about the project below.

The AW13 collection explores the brand's core values - independent thinking and creative disruption, which is basically fashion speak for "we make clothes for hipsters who deliberately dress to look off-kilter and want a route to instant edge".
And for next season I'm thinking they pulled the edgy bit off quite well with the emphasis on luxe fabrics and slick detailing.

Womenswear features sassy leather thigh-high zip-detail slit skirts, soft pleated leather skirts, double-layered wool / leather baseball and biker jackets, slim-fit sweaters and super skinny patchwork jeans - high impact pieces which require minimal styling.
This is AllSaints moving away from their classic Shoreditch vibe 'distressed clothing' and into more bold and sophisticated styles with attitude, under the creative direction of Will Beedle.
If we were on Instagram right now, this collection would get a *like* from me.
