You're so vain, you probably think this post is about you....
Patrick Demarchelier's Cindy Sherman-inspired fashion spread for Garage magazine #4 S/S 2013 features a cover with four anonymous models wearing masks from Sherman’s MoMA self portraits. If you're not already familiar with Sherman's work, 1) WHERE have you been?! and 2) find out more about one of the most influential females in contemporary art HERE.
Under the direction of Garage's Ed-in-Chief, Dasha Zhukova, the idea of using Sherman's portraits was to challenge popular notions on vanity, which is also the theme of the entire issue. As Zhukova says, “Marketing strategies have taken over our personalities and I hate it. Everyone is in the business of branding themselves. Personality has lost its meaning — as people are growing obsessed with being fashionable, more so than being themselves. I wanted this new issue to tackle these issues of modern identity and celebrate unique personalities.”
The issue hits newsstands on Feb 9th and also features fine art photographer Boris Mikhailov in conversation with Juergen Teller and musicians-of-the-moment, Mykki Blanco, Angel Haze, and SSION.
