Fashion on Film: Miuccia Prada For The Great Gatsby

Miuccia Prada has unveiled four sketches of the designs she's been working on with costume designer Catherine Martin for the eagerly awaited big-screen adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel, The Great Gatsby (directed by Baz Luhrmann).

The Milan-based designer has previously collaborated with Luhrmann on a costume for Leonardo DiCaprio in the 1996 Shakespeare flick, Romeo + Juliet - more recently the pair teamed up on a series of short films for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's 2012 exhibition which celebrated the work of Prada and the late Italian designer Elsa Schiaparelli.

Inspired by styles from both the Prada and Miu Miu catwalk archives, the Great Gatsby costume sketches show three Prada-inspired designs and one Miu Miu dress, all reworked to incorporate the style, detailing and embellishments of the flapper girl Jazz age.
The designer is to create more than 40 bespoke looks for the film which was slated to open last Christmas and is now due to hit cinema screens in the Summer.
Thank goodness Carey Mulligan beat grump-face Keira Knightley and Natalie YAWNman to the role as Daisy Buchanan (Hollywood gave up trying to make Blake Lively happen)... I might actually go and see the film now.
I was also temporarily excited that DiCaprio will play Jay Gatsby until I saw recent pics of him.... is it just me, or is he beginning to look like his eyes have shrunk while his face kept growing? Bring back hot 1997 Titanic Leo please and thank you.
