Whatever Happened To @_MAXWELL_?

Remember him? The singer (who was nice to look at) who gave us sessy tunes like "Ascension: Don't Ever Wonder" and helped to define and shape the neo-soul movement which slinked its way into the the latter half of the '90s (think Erykah Badu, D'Angelo, Jill Scott etc)?
Well he cut his hair for one, boo to that, I loved his big 'do', and since his platinum-selling, Grammy nominated Urban Hang Suite LP, which debuted in 2006, he's still been making the kind of wah wah music couples love, if you know what I mean....yes, that kind of music.

He's also been touring, performed for VH1's 'Storytellers' live sessions, collected more gongs from the AMA's, Soul Train, BET and Grammy awards - and even made Billboard Chart history when he occupied the two top spots on the Adult R&B chart, the first in its 16-year history. He even writes songs for other artists under his publishing moniker Musze. So yes, he's been a busy boy. But not so much over here in the UK. Pourquoi?

Some of us still need our Maxwell-fix you know!
Since his "BlackSUMMERS'night" album in 2009, and the promise of an indie-esque album (he cited the xx and Fleet Foxes as inspirations in a Guardian interview in 2010), nothing, nada, rien, nichts, from him!

If you're wondering why I'm telling you all this, it's because I heard his silky voice in a French bar last night and had one of those flashback moments - a flashback to when I drunkenly slurred "I Love You" at him backstage after a show in London. As you do.
So let's have a retro-rewind and watch him in all his hair and purdy face glory back in '96 *sighs*...ahhhh Maxwell.
