Wang is My Homeboy - RTW Fall 2012

The high-octane sportswear machine - aka Alexander Wang - just keeps powering on, this time with his ready-to-wear fall 2012 collection which fused military with futuristic and his signature downtown-urban chic (albeit a more sophisticated version).

Dominated by glossy lacquered coats and jackets, the hard-edged but slick collection experimented with the usual mix of high-tech fabrics including waxed leather, lacquered merino wool (his fabric du jour) shiny chiffon, vinyl and bonded leather. Key pieces included shrink-wrapped jacquard knit dresses with frayed/draped detailing, hooded quilted vests with detachable hoods, leather front-slit skirts and mesh turtlenecks which covered the model's mouths. There was even a lacquered raincoat with detachable visor - I'm thinking he missed a trick there - should've gone for an umbrella hat.
Once again oxblood red made its appearance in the NYFW colour palette trend, breaking up Wang's usual monocromatic shades, along with a new optic white the designer referred to as "peroxide".
It was a collection full of the usual cool-girl separates and accessory wise, knee-high boots and an oversize tote that looks just like a Doctor's bag are sure to be best-sellers.

Oh, and three tall clothes hangers by the name of Shalom Harlow, Karolina Kurkova and Gisele B√ľndchen rocked up for the catwalk finale, which included a maze of mirrors and a "techno techno!!" soundtrack.

And I know Die Antwoord are so-hot-right-now (they appear in the T by Alexander Wang SS12 video and print campaign), but seriously, front-chick Yo-Landi Vi$er's frow-look of bleach-white mullet, creepy black contact lenses and her homage to gold puffa jackets and leggings (below), just scares the *insert sweary word here* out of me. It also makes me want to get the fashion police on speed-dial.
