GiddyUp Givenchy!

Givenchy's Pre-Fall 2012 collection was inspired by 50s fetish model Bettie Page, and manages to perfectly juxtapose her edgy, vampish sex appeal with a mix of military and urban overtones, such as sharp tailoring and masculine forms - while still injecting just the right amount of cool, clean girlie detailing. French equine chic even gets a look-in, with fur-covered riding hats (or Jockey caps as my horsey friend calls them) and the item of footwear which will have grown women fighting over this year - the knee-high riding boots with heel-covering sheath, which come in leather, wool and pony-skin; creating a dramatic new silhouette (and *ahem* a collectors item).

Taking us on a journey from the ‘50s through to the ‘70s, pre-fall 2012 is a mix of earthy tones, blacks and navy blues, occasionally shot through with a tangerine bright over boxy felted wool jackets and suits, asymmetrical argyle sweaters, slim trousers and jodphurs.
Paying homage to previous seasons, Riccardo Tisci also reworked vibrant floral prints across silk and satin flared skirts, mini skirts and shirtdresses; and gave a nod to emblematic must-haves such as printed sweatshirts and tees, recycling his snarling rottweiler graphic.

Statement accessories are also on Givenchy's mind again, with antler pendants replacing the SS12 giant sharkstooth necklace - if you can't afford their price tag, don't worry, copies are all over the high-street already!
