NYFW SS12: My Fav's So Far

Alexander Wang

From cool digital-print blooms on sporty shapes, mesh inspired streetwear and metallic biker helmets; to BMX speedracer style zip-front onesies in a geometric print with leather bandana hair accessories, SHOWStudio summed up this collection the best: "One part speed-racer, one part hardcore riot grrl, Alexander Wang well and truly nailed a kick-ass Tank Girl vibe with aplomb.”  Watch the full show below:

A full on East-meets-Wild-Wild-West vibe at Thakoon, where cute cowgirls and vibrant Bollywood styles provided a fusion of bright metallics, saris in psychedelic bandana-like prints, rococo brocades, long flowing skirts with lame edging, cute asymmetrical front-to-back hemline dresses and two-toned stetsons. Oh, and peplum skirts and a printed blazer also popped up - again! Both are key looks for SS12 at NYFW so far. Models also rocked the runway in spray-painted fluoro hair; a quirky touch of beauty theatrics that wouldn't have looked out of place in a show by Japanese designer Rei Kawakubo (founder of Comme des Garçons). Helmut Lang

Helmut Lang designers Nicole and Michael Colovos debuted their runway show for the label (the first since 2007), in a collection which stayed true to their minimal aesthetic with strong cuts and contrasts. On a mainly monochrome colour palette, with the occasional hint of bright yellow; there were deconstructed dresses with angled hemlines, draping in tunic tops, cropped silk pants, asymmetric dresses, and tailored blazers. The brand's handbag collection, which launched a year ago, also appeared in its pod-shaped silhouette in the show, with a new range of colours, along with colourblocked satchels and totes.
