Vivienne Westwood Gold Label A/W 2011/12 Campaign












Kenya provided the setting for the Vivienne Westwood Gold Label A/W 11/12 campaign, shot by renowned fashion photographer, Juergen Teller, which features Westwood, husband Andreas Kronthaler and African models Ajuma Nasenyana, Sonnietta Thomas, and Elsie Njeri.  The campaign showcases both mens and womenswear, with the emphasis on woman as warrior; an extension of the designer's vision from her Paris Fashion Week show earlier this year, which saw models strut down a gold glittery catwalk in chain-mail tunics, crinolines imprinted with symbols and 'cave-paintings' and helmets trimmed with hair. "I can't keep banging on about climate change, so I decided to express my thoughts about the planet through strong women, and the fact women are the guardians of culture," Westwood told The Telegraph in March.
This A/W 11/12 campaign also highlights Dame Viv's work with the Ethical Fashion Programme, which supports the work of 7,000 women who live in conditions of extreme poverty but desire to improve their lives. The programme empowers those living in the most rural areas of Africa giving them access to work and an income that will subsequently benefit their entire community. 
This latest Gold Label collection also includes the three handbag designs Westwood created exclusively for the programme - using recycled materials from roadside advertisement banners and safari tents, all three designs have been hand crafted by marginalised communities of women such as single mothers, widows and HIV/AIDS victims.
